Emergency:  Severe Weather

Severe weather conditions can occur suddenly or be predicted ahead of time. Severe weather likely to occur in this area includes heavy rains, hailstorm, sand storm with high winds (Shamaal) and cyclones.

Zone Closure

The decision to close the zone or discontinue normal business operations is made by the Authority. The Authority notifies all the businesses via electronic, voice mail, or other media of the decision. Local media is also notified and provides updates.

Personal Safety

Hail storm. Remain indoors, away from windows. Exercise extreme caution when driving.

Heavy Rains and Flooding. In the case of extensive roof or window leaks or imminent flooding of ground areas, unplug electrical devices and secure all equipment by moving or covering it. (See Flooding section)

Sand Storm with High Winds. If possible, remain inside the building, away from windows. When outside, avoid areas with the heaviest concentration of trees. Stay clear of sagging or downed power lines. Exercise extreme caution when driving.

Reporting Hazards

Emergency situations that require immediate action and response should be reported to Emergency hotline 777 (from Internal IP Phone) / 04 – 3601 777(from mobile phone)

Securing Records and Equipment

Power outages may occur as a result of severe weather conditions. Equipment and office materials could be damaged by flooding or conditions occurring as a result of broken windows or other damage to a building. Take appropriate action to secure vital records, and equipment. See also Power Outage and Evacuation sections of this guide.
